A live television appearance of Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, was briefly interrupted on Thursday after an unexpected off-camera voice was heard during the broadcast, momentarily cutting the video feed and causing concern among viewers.
The interruption occurred mid-interview when a voice was heard saying “band karo isay” (shut this down), after which the transmission briefly went off air.
What Happened During the Live Broadcast?
Shortly after the disruption, the programme resumed and Ahsan Iqbal reappeared on screen. The show’s host informed viewers that many had expressed alarm over the sudden cut and asked the minister if everything was alright.
Iqbal reassured viewers by stating that there was no issue and all was well. The host then continued the discussion, noting that only a few minutes of the programme remained.
Minister Clarifies the Incident
Following the incident, Ahsan Iqbal addressed the matter on X (formerly Twitter), thanking people for their concern and explaining that the disruption was not political or security-related.
According to the minister, a brief argument occurred nearby, and the person involved was unaware that a live broadcast was in progress, leading to the unexpected interruption. He added that he rejoined the interview shortly afterwards and urged the public to avoid unnecessary speculation.
Viral Clip Sparks Social Media Speculation
A short clip of the interruption circulated widely on social media, triggering speculation about the cause of the disruption. However, journalists later clarified the situation after speaking directly with the minister.
One journalist said Ahsan Iqbal explained that a family gathering was taking place at his Islamabad residence, during which children accidentally entered his study, causing the brief disturbance.
Information Minister Confirms Explanation
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar also confirmed the explanation, stating that children had unexpectedly entered the room during the live broadcast. He reiterated that the minister returned to the programme shortly afterwards and that there was no cause for concern.
Why the Incident Gained Attention
Live television interruptions involving senior government officials are rare, which is why the moment quickly drew attention online. However, officials have stressed that the incident was purely accidental and unrelated to any political or official matter.
